Multimode-Fasern

Multimode-Fasern sind vor allem bei Anwendungen im Einsatz, bei denen Signale nur über kurze Strecken hinweg übertragen werden müssen. Beispiele sind Firmen- oder Campusnetzwerke. Im Gegensatz zu Singlemode-Fasern können sich im Kern von Multimode-Fasern mehrere Tausend Moden ausbreiten. Dadurch ist eine deutlich höhere Leistungsübertragung möglich, die auch in der Lasertechnik genutzt wird. Bei langen Distanzen kommt es allerdings zu Dispersionseffekten, also Signalverfälschungen. Daher sind bei großen Strecken Singlemode-Fasern das Produkt der Wahl.
